Questions We'd Want
Answered Before We Started.
We know you're trusting us with something that matters. These are the honest answers — including the ones that aren't easy.
Getting Started
What it costs, what you get, and what happens during your trial.
No catch. The free tier is free permanently — not a trial, not a teaser. You can record messages, add heirs, and store your vault with no card required and no expiration.
The trial gives you full Infinity access for 7 days so you can experience the complete platform before deciding whether to upgrade. After the trial, you keep your vault on the free tier. Nothing is deleted. Nothing disappears.
We make money when people upgrade to Essentials ($199/yr) or Infinity ($499/yr). That's the only business model. No ads. No data selling.
Your vault stays intact. Every message, every recording, every heir you added — all of it remains exactly as you left it.
Your account moves to the free tier, which includes message storage and vault access. Delivery to heirs remains a paid feature — but your messages are preserved forever regardless of whether you upgrade.
We will never delete your messages. Preservation and delivery are separate things. We protect the first regardless of payment.
Essentials ($199/yr) is built for the people closest to you — up to 3 heirs, up to 4 messages, monthly alive-check, 14-day grace period before delivery triggers.
Infinity ($499/yr) is for families who refuse to leave anything unsaid — unlimited heirs, unlimited messages, 10GB storage, weekly alive-check, and a 30-day grace period.
Both tiers start with the same 7-day free trial at full Infinity access so you can see what's possible before you decide.
Privacy & Security
Who sees your messages, how they're stored, and why we built it this way.
Only you — until you're gone. Your messages are encrypted at rest and in transit. Nobody at Eterna reads your content. Not the founder, not support staff, not AI systems.
Your designated heirs receive access only after the alive-check system confirms a genuine, extended silence — not a missed check-in, not a forgotten login.
Heirs receive a private, time-limited access link. They don't need an account. They access exactly what you left them and nothing more.
No. The AI Guide helps you structure and record your messages during the creation process — it does not store, analyze, or train on the content of what you record.
Your voice recordings, videos, and written messages are stored as files. They are not processed by AI after you record them. They sit in your vault, encrypted, until delivery.
We do not use your personal messages to train AI models. Our AI providers operate under agreements that prohibit training on API data. That's not a policy we invented — it's a contractual baseline we hold our vendors to.
Files are stored on Cloudflare R2 — enterprise-grade infrastructure used by thousands of production applications. Your database records live on Supabase with row-level security, meaning your data is isolated and inaccessible to other users at the database level.
All connections use TLS encryption. Magic link authentication means there's no password to steal or compromise.
We're a small company. We built this with the same infrastructure that large financial and healthcare companies trust — because the data you're storing deserves that level of care.
Longevity & Trust
The hardest questions. We'd rather answer them now than have you wonder later.
Honest answer: we can't promise that. No startup can. What we can tell you is that longevity is the central design principle of everything we build — not an afterthought.
We're building toward an export feature so subscribers can download their entire vault at any time in standard formats. If Eterna ever shuts down, your files don't disappear — you have them.
We're not VC-backed with a burn rate designed to force an exit. This is a founder-owned business built to last because the product only works if it lasts. We have more reason to care about longevity than any other software company you've used.
In the event of a shutdown, we are committed to giving subscribers meaningful advance notice to download their vault before anything is decommissioned. That's not a legal footnote — it's the entire point of building export functionality.
We're building vault export as a feature precisely so this is never a crisis — it becomes a routine operation you can do anytime, regardless of what happens to the company.
This is the question we take most seriously. The entire purpose of Eterna is to guarantee your words survive. A platform that could silently disappear would be a betrayal of that promise.
We're new. We don't have a decade of behavior to point to. What we have is a founder who built this because of a personal loss — not to sell it to an advertising company in three years.
The business model is subscriptions. There is no advertising revenue, no data licensing, and no investor pressure to monetize attention. You are the customer, not the product.
We're asking you to bet on intent. That's a real ask, and we respect your skepticism. If you're not ready, start with the free tier, keep your messages low-stakes, and watch how we behave over time. That's how trust is built.
The Alive-Check System
How Eterna knows when to act — and how we make sure we never act too soon.
Nothing happens immediately. We send multiple reminder emails before anything escalates — a first notice, a second notice, and a third warning. Only after all three go unanswered does a grace period begin.
The grace period gives you additional time before any heir notification occurs. Infinity subscribers get 30 days. Essentials subscribers get 14 days. That's weeks of buffer beyond the missed check-ins.
We'd rather wait too long than act too soon. A false alarm is a catastrophic failure of this system. We designed it to be nearly impossible to trigger by accident.
Infinity subscribers check in weekly. Essentials subscribers check in monthly. Each check-in is a single email with a single link — one click to confirm you're here.
You can also check in proactively from your vault dashboard at any time. If you're traveling, going off-grid, or know you'll miss an email, check in before you go.
Delivery is triggered only when all of the following are true: you've missed all three check-in emails, and the full grace period has elapsed without any response from you.
There are no other triggers. A single missed check-in never triggers delivery. A short period of silence never triggers delivery. The system is designed with multiple layers of confirmation precisely because the stakes of a false alarm are too high.
When your heirs receive your messages, it will be because the silence was real.
Your Messages & Delivery
What you can record, how heirs receive it, and what happens after.
Voice recordings, video messages, written letters, and photos — all within a single message card. Each message is a rich multimedia package, not just a text file.
You can create messages for specific occasions: a general farewell, a birthday they'll celebrate without you, an anniversary, final instructions, or anything else you want to leave behind.
The AI Guide helps you through the process — so you don't start from a blank page. Most people finish their first message in under 5 minutes.
Yes. Your vault is yours to edit at any time while you're alive. Update messages, re-record voice notes, swap out photos, add new heirs, remove old ones. Nothing is locked.
Once delivery is triggered, messages are delivered as they existed at the moment of your last check-in. So keep your vault current — it reflects who you are right now.
No account required. When delivery is triggered, each heir receives a private email with a personal access link. They click it and see exactly what you left them — nothing else.
The link is unique to each heir and time-limited for security. They can view, listen to, and download what you left them. Your messages belong to them at that point.
We designed it this way deliberately. Your family will be grieving. The last thing they should have to do is create an account or remember a password to hear your voice.
You control heir information in your vault and can update it at any time. If an heir changes their email, update it in your vault. We send to whatever is on file at the time of delivery.
This is worth reviewing once a year — treat it like updating your will. People move, emails change, and relationships evolve. Your vault should reflect where things actually stand.
